Terraria
Dig out a two-dimensional world, build it up, and clear its bosses one at a time.
What it is about
You land in a generated world of blocks — left to right and far down. You start with a pickaxe: chop wood, build a house so a merchant moves in, and keep digging.
Everything hangs on your gear, and the better gear lies deeper — where things get less comfortable at the same time. Between the tiers stand bosses you do not simply walk up to: first you build them an arena, brew potions, find the right weapon — and then die a few times anyway.
With two of you the work divides itself: one keeps the house and brews potions, one heads out and brings back ore. The world persists even when only one of you is on.
Our verdict for couples
A pickaxe takes you downwards, and at some point you notice the world reaches much further in both directions than you thought. The roles find themselves: one keeps extending the house up top, one is permanently out and comes back with things that do not have names yet. The first evening consists mostly of dying, though, because nothing here is explained — one of you should enjoy looking things up in between. Get over that hurdle and you have months of occupation for very little money, with new things still arriving free after more than ten years.

What other co-op fans say
The community splits into two halves that say the same thing: the beginning is hard, everything after it is superb. The people writing here often have three- or four-digit hour counts behind them and remember worlds, bosses and companions the way you remember a trip taken together. What gets praised is the scope, the freely chosen roles, and the fact that after more than ten years updates still arrive. The one reservation is stated very plainly: without a wiki or somebody who knows it, getting in is a chore — several openly advise keeping the page open alongside.
- “Really good game and still getting updates after all these years!”
- “easy to play and fun to build cool homes and other builds”
- “you need the wiki open when you play this game”
