Every page request writes a log entry holding the IP address, the time, the requested address, the referring address and the browser identification. That is technically necessary to deliver the site, to find faults and to spot attacks.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure and functioning operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted after 14 days. They are not combined with any other data.

Statistics are collected by Matomo running on this very server. It is not a bought-in service: the data never leaves this server, and there is no provider reading along.

The counting is set up so that it works without consent:

• No cookies. Nothing is stored on your device or read from it. § 25 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) therefore does not apply.
• Truncated IP address. The last two bytes are removed before storage, so 203.0.113.42 becomes 203.0.0.0. Tracing it back to a person is not possible.
• Do Not Track is honoured. Anyone who has switched that setting on in their browser is not counted.

What is recorded: the pages viewed, the approximate time, the referring source, the browser and device type, and the country. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in knowing which content is being read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is deleted after 14 months.

The typeface is served from our own server. No connection to Google Fonts takes place.

Covers, key art and screenshots are downloaded once during import and are kept here afterwards. Viewing a page creates no connection to Steam, IGDB or RAWG — neither from your browser nor from this server. Those providers therefore never learn that you are here.

Your choice between the light and the dark theme is kept in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie. It does not leave your device and is not transmitted. It is technically necessary for the appearance you picked and therefore needs no consent.

If you write to us, we process your address and your message in order to reply (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or (b) where a contract is being initiated). The correspondence is deleted once it has been dealt with and no statutory retention periods stand in the way.

Signing in to the editorial area sets a session cookie. That concerns the editorial team only, not visitors to the site.

The site runs on a server operated by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner.

Backups of the database and the media files are made regularly. They are kept on the same server and deleted after 30 days.

No advertising, no third-party tracking, no social networks, no embedded videos, no handing data to ad networks. There is no comment form at the moment either.

Should any of that change — advertising in particular — this policy will be updated beforehand, and wherever consent is required it will be obtained beforehand.

You have the right to information about the data stored about you (Art. 15), to rectification (Art. 16), to erasure (Art. 17), to restriction of processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). For the visitor statistics, your browser’s Do Not Track setting is enough to do so.

Regardless of that, you may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). For the address given above, the competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Rhineland-Palatinate.
