Scott Pilgrim EX
Scott against seven evil exes, in pixel art and for four on one screen.
What it is about
A beat ’em up after the comic and the animated series: Scott has to work his way through Ramona’s seven evil exes, this time with time travel.
The follow-up to the 2010 game, again in pixel art, for up to four on one screen.
Our verdict for couples
One evening, one screen, up to four people — the maths works, and the first playthrough is over in about three hours. If you like the comic or the series the tone is right, and the characters play differently enough that you pick someone else the second time. The catch is the movement: anyone who knows the 2010 game misses the dodge and the side-steps and describes the walking as sluggish. That is where nearly all the criticism collects. On top of that the characters learn barely anything new as they level, which dulls the appeal of replaying. For a short evening together it is still enough; for more than that keep an eye on the price.

What other co-op fans say
Eighty-five percent approval, though from comparatively few reviews — just under four hundred. The combat gets praised, the style, and that a playthrough fits into one evening. Almost every objection comes down to the same point: the comparison with the 2010 game, whose mobility is missed here. Those playing online additionally report sessions dropping as soon as somebody leaves.

- “it isn’t too long, your first playthrough will probably reach three hours roughly”
- “this game feels awful to move around in, in comparison to the first game. no side stepping, no dodge rolls, and feels like im constantly walking on sticky slime”
