Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
A spaceship with more stations than two people can crew at once.
What it is about
You sit inside a round spaceship that looks like a cross-section from within: cannons on the sides, a shield up top, a wheel, an engine, a map table. Every station wants crewing, and none crews itself.
So you run. Whoever is shooting is not steering; whoever is turning the shield cannot see ahead. On top of that you collect coloured crystals that upgrade a station — and whether the red one belongs in the cannon or the shield is a question worth arguing about.
The story is told alongside: you are rescuing bunnies from a galaxy something dark has got into. You play on one screen; over distance Steam's Remote Play streams the picture to the second person.
Our verdict for couples
One of the finest sofa games there is for a couple, for a very simple reason: the ship has six stations and you have four hands. So you spend the whole time running back and forth, shouting who is turning the shield and who is shooting, and after half an hour you know without speaking where the other one is. With four it is calmer; with two it is denser — and denser is the better word here.
Pros
- Over Remote Play one copy covers distance too
- Anybody gets it after five minutes
- Every ship plays differently
Cons
- Six stations are a stretch for two
- The campaign is done after eight hours
- The picture is busy, and in the melee you lose track easily
Suitable from
Casual
- Conflict potential
- Spirited
- Cosiness
- Mixed
- When you can stop
- After 15 minutes
- How long it lasts
- 5–15 hours
What other co-op fans say
A striking number simply call it their couch game — the one that goes on when people come over. What gets praised is how quickly you are in and the crystals that let you recombine weapons and shields again and again. About playing as two there is a recurring observation: it works, but you do a lot of running. Several write that three or four makes it easier — which for a couple means more strenuous and, at the same time, closer.
- “My absolute go-to couch co-op game.”
- “This is fun cozy (and sometimes a little frantic) couch co-op style game.”
- “Works well with two people though you are running around the ship to cover all the jobs.”
