Pikmin 4
A squad of tiny plant creatures clears out a garden, and the sun is going down.
What it is about
You are stranded on a planet that looks like a very large garden, and there you find Pikmin: finger-sized plant creatures that carry, fight and tear down walls if you throw enough of them at the same task.
Play runs in days. In the morning you set off, divide the Pikmin up, recover treasures and fight your way through enemies; by evening everyone has to be back or they stay outside. A day takes about fifteen minutes and can be rewound if it went wrong.
New is the dog Oatchi, who carries Pikmin, swims across water and fights on his own. He takes much of the old harshness out of it — and the second player, throwing pebbles with a pointer, takes the rest.
Our verdict for couples
For two this is a very uneven game, and here that is explicitly the idea. One of you divides the work: which Pikmin where, what can be finished before dusk, which route is worth it. The other gets a pointer, throws pebbles at enemies with it and deploys items. That sounds like little and is the rescue at the right moment — a stunned enemy eats no Pikmin. For the first seat it is the most relaxed Pikmin there is: there is time pressure, but any day can be rewound. Anyone who wants the battles has to go alone, though; there is no second role there.
Pros
- The second role asks for aiming and pressing, nothing more
- An in-game day takes fifteen minutes and ends with a save
- Any day can be rewound if it went wrong
Cons
- The second player has no character of their own
- The Dandori battles have no second role
- Come back too late in the evening and you lose your Pikmin
